The international conference ‘Islamic religion against extremism’ was held in Moscow in October, 5-6.
The decision to organize the conference was made at the suggestion of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Islamic religious figures and scholars who gathered at the conference represented the leading muslim states. They came together to work out the common ideological platform against extremism.
"The Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, which initiated it, is beginning a new stage of activity by addressing one of the most pressing problems, specifically countering terrorism and extremism," Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday in a welcome address to participants.
"President Vladimir Putin spoke on the topic at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly and made several suggestions," Lavrov said. "Russia has chaired a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council, which discussed fighting of the developing terrorist threat in the Middle East and North Africa."
