Graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1972, the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985. Ph.D. in history.
Languages: English, French and Chinese.
Diplomatic service since 1972, worked at the embassies in China (from 1972 to 1977 and from 1991 to 1994), Algeria (from 1978 to 1983), India (from 1985 to 1989). From 1997 to 2001 participated in an UN peacekeeping operation and in the OSCE Mission in the former Yugoslavia (Croatia).
From 2003 to 2007 - Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Nairobi (Kenya).
From 2007 to 2011 – Deputy Head of the Department of Africa of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Has the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. Awarded the Medal of the Order of Merit.
Married, father of two adult daughters.
